Commuter Rail

In the light of climate change, rising fuel prices, and a greater awareness of the need to give attention to social wellbeing in society, more and more people within the greater Dunedin area (covering Mosgiel, Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Waitati and Palmerston) are expressing interest in a revival of a passenger rail service. This could draw on best practice from similar local community rail partnerships set up and operating in the UK and Germany.

In early 2013 BRCT intends to facilitate a multi-stakeholder enquiry into the practicability of opening such a rail service in this area.   If you are interested to be part of this, or know others who can contribute to this, please register your interest.

In particular we would like to know:

  •  - What do you think the community needs?
  •  - What can you offer the group?

To register your interest, email: rail@blueskinpower.co.nz
